Child Support Calculator for Maryland

A child support calculator for Maryland should be obtainable from the Department of Human Resources, Maryland division.
However this site seems to be having some problems at the moment so I will set out below how to do your own child support calculations for Maryland.

The General Assembly of Maryland passed, in 1990, a law which embraces the national Child Support Guidelines and which allows you to make your own child support calculator for Maryland because they have provided a form to allow you to do so.

The calculations are relatively straightforward and be warned that there is a software program available on the internet which will calculate this figure for you. However, be warned-you do NOT need any software program and if you follow what I set out below you will learn how to do your own child support calculations for Maryland.

Firstly, find out what is the gross monthly income of both parents. Take from this figure any existing alimony payments to a third party, any medical insurance paid for children and add any alimony you receive in the case at hand.

This will give you an adjusted income figure. Then divide the fathers and mothers adjusted income by the total combined adjusted income of both parents and determine the appropriate percentage to each adjusted income by referring to the Maryland child support table. The whole purpose of this calculation is to divide the child support obligation between both parents in proportion to their adjusted actual incomes.

It is important to remember that there are excellent resources online such as http://www.mdjustice.org/ and http://www.courts.state.md.us/ and if you search around you will find plenty of child support forms, child custody forms and everything you need to work out for yourself a child support calculator for Maryland.

There is no need to buy any fancy software and child support calculations are easy enough to calculate in all states and follow the same child support guidelines. Most states also supply downloadable forms or worksheets to allow you to calculate your payment obligations but unfortunately the Maryland child support worksheet seems to be unavailable just now. Hopefully it will be restored in the near future.
